In Switzerland, city of Hirschthal, a LANDY hydro power screw has been installed. The archimedean screw which is located in a stream, will generate energy for some 100 households . The water that flows downstream sets the screw in motion and so generates electricity for local use.
According to the Swiss company that is having the screw pump installed, this method of energy generation is highly cost-effective and could cover the investment within a few years, especially because the surplus energy can be sold back to the grid.

The screw details are:
dia. 2.8m, length 10m, capacity 3500 l/sec. power 110kW, head 3.5 m.
